James was an ebullient, big-hearted, larger-than-life spirit, and touched the lives of many over the years. We’d like to share some of our own favorite memories, and we’d love to see and hear yours.

When I think of Jamie, I think of his smile. Always laughing, joking and with a twinkle in his eye. He made our photography class in high school extra fun. I’m happy I knew him. He will be dearly missed by all who has the pleasure of knowing him. Sending condolences to all. Much love.

Jamie really was one of my oldest friends. Although I hadn’t seen him in a number of years, we stayed in touch through messages and instagram and comments about his job and photography. He was on my first bus route in Kindergarten, introduced me and my brothers to Magic and Star Wars cards, the internet, and online video games – seems like forever ago. We had lots of fun in high school and shared many great memories together. He was a smart, funny, and unique guy, and I will miss him dearly. My sincere condolences.

Jamie was a one of a kind friend. He had a smile and certain twinkle in his eye that anyone would remember. He was always excited to tell you about his new project, or adventures and just as intrigued when you told him of your own upcomings or things in your future. I’ll forever be grateful for the 23 years I was able to know him as a friend. The world is a dimmer place without him and his laughter in it. My heart goes out to his and Marie’s family during this absolutely devastating time of loss. ♥️

Jamie was one of the most effervescent people I’ve ever known, his laughter and enthusiasm were truly contagious. He was empathetic and tender and loving and funny. He was deeply earnest and curious and joyful, and it was clear he kept those qualities at full force his entire life, no matter what challenges he encountered. I was so happy when he found such a wonderful love with Marie, he clearly adored her and was so excited to introduce her to me (and the rest of the world!).
He was the cutest kid, and has always remained in my pantheon of all time cutest kids. He was just a year younger than me, but I still clearly remember, at age 5, thinking how adorable he was, excitedly talking about his trucks and roaring like a dinosaur. He was like a tiny jubilant tornado at times, with a beautifully unguarded zest for life that felt rare and special. I have such strong and wonderful early memories of playing with him; climbing stuff, and rambling in the grass and woods across from the Whitney’s house in Concord. The last time we saw each other in person we talked about how much we both loved that place.
I felt really lucky to also get to spend some time with him as an adult. It meant so much to me to reconnect when we could over the years, he always felt like dear family, no matter how much time had passed. I will miss his beautiful laugh and smile, hearing him talk about the latest music or movie he was excited about. I loved seeing his posts about his travels and adventures with Marie, or hearing about his latest project that he was proud of, and what he’d learned from it. I was looking forward to being family with him for the rest of our lives too. He will always be with me. I love you Jamie. I love you Whitneys. We were so lucky to have him, and he was so lucky to have you.

This will be said over and over again. He laughed and he laughed and he helped us all laugh with joy. He shared a Thanksgiving Dinner with us a number of years ago and that’s what struck me the most at that time. The amount of fun he brought to the table. Always so genuine, multi-leveled, and nuanced. And the joy I had when he found his love Marie. He will forever be in my heart. And Blessing to Marie and her family.

Jamie made everyone in the room feel good. He was such a fun kid–I remember throwing small pears at cars with him and reveling in the fact that the wind prevented the pears from actually hitting the cars! I have many happy sunlit memories from rambling with Meara and Jamie and Will at their beautiful old house in Concord. I can’t even remember what games we played, just that we were so happy and having so much fun.
It was such a pleasure to reconnect with him as an adult; he was so engaged with life and lit up talking about his job. I also appreciated his insights about raising a boy from the perspective of being an adventure-seeking boy himself! Grateful to Instagram for the window into his latest adventures for the past few years and his love for Marie. So much love to you all; my aching heart is with you.

I remember the energy Jamie would spread when he entered a room. Jamie and I were good friends, long after high school and college. Jamie was always honest and he would give you the shirt off your back. He warned me and saved me from a horrible situation in college, a debt I owe him to this day and will paid….after I ascend. Remember, energy can not be destroyed, it can only be transferred and the energy of Jamie Whitney is old and strong and will be forever with each and every one of us. Love you brother, see you on the other side.
